Star Wars: The Retro Card Set...

I recently picked up a Tony Gwynn Starting Lineup Talking Baseball card from CheckoutMyCards.com. Since I really like the simple design, I figured it would be nice as a Star Wars card.

The painted portraits on the original cards were pretty basic, so I figured I could "paint" it myself. After wasting an hour or so with my new drawing tablet and Corel Painter, I decided that it would look a lot better if I appropriated a painting from the internet. There were some great paintings, but I eventually "borrowed" the Luke Skywalker painting from Dry Jack on Deviant Art via Google Images. Hope he doesn't mind. If he wants, I'll split all the money I make from this card. (Will he take a cashiers check for $ 0.00?)

A Very Special Episode of PunkRockPaint...

My tribute to the great Southern California Blackout of 2011 is posted over at The Baseball Card Blog. There may be some new Retro Star Wars cards...

Star Wars: The Retro Baseball Card Gallery...

Happy Labor Day! The original Star Wars trilogy is on Spike today, so I was able to refresh my card making batteries. This one took much longer than it looks like it should have. I guess I was watching Star Wars while working on it. I started when Luke and Obi-Wan go to Mos Eisley in Episode IV, and I'm typing this as Luke begins his Jedi training on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. (I type so slowly that he may already be hangin' out with the ewoks when I finish.)

Star Wars: The Retro Baseball Card Set...

As I sat on the couch drinking malt liquor and watching the Padres game, I realized what card I could make for my next post. The idea of putting Billy Dee Williams on an old Colt '45s card seemed too easy...

I wanted to incorporate Lobot, so the '34 Goudey card seemed like a natural. The Colt '45s idea IS too easy, but don't think I won't do it.

I Find Your Lack of Comments Disturbing...

You need to read the post title with your best Darth Vader voice.

PRP Star Wars - #30 Darth Vader

Word around the campfire is that an Imperial Vice-Admiral mocked the Dark Lord of the Sith's team name. Speaking in a lisp, the Vice-Admiral said, "I betth you and your bunth of Sithies are all thwitch hitterth." They say that Vader chuckled beneath his mask, and invited him to light saber batting practice for that evening's game against the Anchorhead Sandies.

They say the Vice-Admiral is now more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

I think 30 cards might be enough for this set...

"You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
